Gabrielle Giffords is in an intensive care unit following surgery for a gunshot wound in the head at close range, the University of Arizona Medical Center announced Saturday afternoon.
Dr. Peter Rhee, said he is “very optimistic” about the congresswoman’s recovery.At least 19 people were shot at Giffords’ “Congress on Your Corner” event, including three members of the Democratic congresswoman’s staff in Arizona. Five have died, including one of Giffords’ aides and a 9-year-old girl. Several others are in critical condition at the university hospital.
State Sen. Linda Lopez, a close friend of Giffords’, told Fox News that the three-term congresswoman was shot in the temple and the bullet exited through her forehead. Lopez said Giffords was responding to commands.
Fox News confirmed that a 22-year-old white male named Jared Loughner was taken into custody as the alleged shooter. Police reportedly had also arrested a second suspect, however
law enforcement official told Fox News they believe Loughner acted alone after a “preliminary search” for a second suspect turned up no one.

Gerry Rafferty is the man behind hits like “Stuck In The Middle With You” and “Baker Street,” has died at the age of 63.The Scottish musician passed away from liver failure on Tuesday after a long battle with alcoholism.Rafferty fell ill in November and was hooked up to a life-support machine after he was admitted to the hospital.His family members were told he had little chance of survival, but his health improved slightly over Christmas, and Rafferty died at his home with his daughter, Martha, by his bedside.The singer began his career as a busker, before forming folk group the Humblebums with comedian Billy Connolly. Dream High English Subbed:An uneven beginning, but one that got progressively better as the hour advanced. [To be honest, I was feeling that dull sense of bored disappointment halfway through, but at the 45-minute mark things picked up, and the last five minutes had my curiosity stirred and hopes rising. You want to talk about a bad week? I’d say that prostitution, murder and suicide can pretty much sum up a worst case scenario when it comes to a PR nightmare. Welcome to what Craigslist.com, a popular online classifieds service, is waking up to today. On this past Sunday Phillip Markoff, dubbed the ‘Craigslist Killer,’ committed what was by all accounts a suicide in his jail cell. The Boston University medical student donned the nickname after going on an alleged murderous crime and gambling spree earlier this year. Markoff was currently being held on charges stemming from the April 14, 2009 fatal shooting, and attempted robbery of Julissa Brisman, 25, at Boston’s Copley Marriot Hotel. Police reports said that Brisman, a model, advertised herself as a masseuse on Craigslist, and the hotel is where Markoff is believed to have met her.

How i Met Your Mother Countdown
Among my 6 must-see sitcoms each week is How I Met Your Mother —hilarious, kitschy at times, slapstick in all the right ways, and two words: Barney Stinson. Neil Patrick Harris is a ridiculous comedian:
But tonight’s episode had a curious twist: a countdown. In the background of several scenes, numbers appeared on various props—a beer can, an apartment door, a medical folder, a news channel, and 46 other random things. I was over-thinking it (as per usual) and figured that the items on which the numbers appeared could be combined to convey some kind of message. I was wrong. I followed the countdown eagerly from 50 down to 1 only to discover that the episode was counting down to the death of Marshall’s father.
It seems sinister for a sitcom to run an episode-long countdown only to reveal the death of a cursory (yet beloved) character. There must be something more to this. Maybe it’s a tribute to something that happened off-screen, like the loss of a set-dresser’s loved one? Or a writer’s family member? I can’t accept that the How I Met Your Mother countdown was solely devoted to counting down the final minutes of Mr. Erikson.

The day preceding Makara Sankranti is called Bhogi and this is when people discard old and derelict things and concentrate on new things causing change or transformation. At dawn people light a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels and wooden furniture at home that are no longer useful. The disposal of derelict things is where all old habits, the vices, attachment to relations and materials things are sacrificed in the sacrificial fire of the knowledge of Rudra, known as the “Rudra Gita Gyan Yagya. It represents realization, transformation and purification of the soul by imbibing and inculcating divine virtues.
In many families, infants and children (usually less than three years old) are showered with fruit called “Regi Pandlu”, that is the Indian jujube fruit. It is believed that doing this would protect the children from evil eye. Sweets in generous quantities are prepared and distributed. It is a time for families to congregate. Brothers pay special tribute to their married sisters by giving gifts as affirmation of their filial love. Landlords give gifts of food, clothes and money to their workforce.
The second day is Makara Sankranti , also called “Pedda Panduga” , which literally means “the big festival”, when everyone wears new clothes, prays to God, and make offerings of traditional food to ancestors who have passed away.On the day after Makara Sankranti, the animal kingdom is remembered and in particular, the cows. Young girls feed the animals,
birds and fishes as a symbol of sharing. Travel is considered to be inappropriate, as these days are dedicated for re-union of the families. Sankranti in this sense demonstrates their strong cultural values as well as a time for change and transformation.
And finally, gurus seek out their devotees to bestow blessings on them.
Kanuma Panduga is not as widely celebrated, but is an integral part of the Sankranti culture. Mukkanuma is popular among the non-vegetarians of the society.
People in Coastal Andhra do not eat any meat or fish during the first three days of the festival, and do so only on the day of Mukkanuma, where as people in Telangana region observe only the first two days as part of the festival and eat any meat or fish on Makara Sankranti (Pedda Panduga), the second day of the festival. For this festival all families prepare Ariselu, Appalu (a sweet made of Jaggery and Pumpkin) and make an offering to God.
This festival is celebrated in almost every village with adventurous games in South India. Whether it is the cock fights in Andhra, Bull fighting in Tamil Nadu or Elephant Mela in Kerala, there is huge amount of illegal betting but the so called “tradition” continues to play a major role in the festival.[citation needed]
Another notable feature of the festival in South India is the Haridas who goes around with a colorfully dressed cow, begging for rice wishing luck.

Kanuma Panduga is not as widely celebrated, but is an integral part of the Sankranti culture. Mukkanuma is popular among the non-vegetarians of the society.
People in Coastal Andhra do not eat any meat or fish during the first three days of the festival, and do so only on the day of Mukkanuma, where as people in Telangana region observe only the first two days as part of the festival and eat any meat or fish on Makara Sankranti (Pedda Panduga), the second day of the festival. For this festival all families prepare Ariselu, Appalu (a sweet made of Jaggery and Pumpkin) and make an offering to God.
This festival is celebrated in almost every village with adventurous games in South India. Whether it is the cock fights in Andhra, Bull fighting in Tamil Nadu or Elephant Mela in Kerala, there is huge amount of illegal betting but the so called “tradition” continues to play a major role in the festival.[citation needed]
Another notable feature of the festival in South India is the Haridas who goes around with a colorfully dressed cow, begging for rice wishing luck.

Sankranti in this sense demonstrates their strong cultural values as well as a time for change and transformation. And finally, gurus seek out their devotees to bestow blessings on them.
Kanuma Panduga is not as widely celebrated, but is an integral part of the Sankranti culture. Mukkanuma is popular among the non-vegetarians of the society.
People in Coastal Andhra do not eat any meat or fish during the first three days of the festival, and do so only on the day of Mukkanuma, where as people in Telangana region observe only the first two days as part of the festival and eat any meat or fish on Makara Sankranti (Pedda Panduga), the second day of the festival. For this festival all families prepare Ariselu, Appalu (a sweet made of Jaggery and Pumpkin) and make an offering to God.
This festival is celebrated in almost every village with adventurous games in South India. Whether it is the cock fights in Andhra, Bull fighting in Tamil Nadu or Elephant Mela in Kerala, there is huge amount of illegal betting but the so called “tradition” continues to play a major role in the festival.
Another notable feature of the festival in South India is the Haridas who goes around with a colorfully dressed cow, begging for rice wishing luck.

The Board of School Education Haryana, Bhiwani came into existence in 1969 as per Haryana Act No. 11 of 1969 with its head-quarters at Chandigarh later shifted to Bhiwani in January 1981. The Board started with a staff of 100 officials allocated from Punjab University, Chandigarh and conducted the first examination of matriculation level (10th Class) in 1970. The Board adopted 10+2 pattern of education and conducted XII class examination under the new scheme with effect from 1987.It started conducting 10+2 Vocational examination in 1990, keeping in view the need and relevance of vocationalization of education in the backdrop of the fast changing economic scenario. Further, in order to reach out to the unreached, the Board established Haryana Open School in 1994 and thereby started bringing into the fold of education those who could not get formal education or could not continue it due to varied reasons.
